Hear from the Bank of England at the Insurance Investment Exchange seminar on 13th June – last chance to register

The latest Insurance Investment Exchange half-day seminar on Tuesday 13th June will provide a rare opportunity to hear from a leading Bank of England official when David Rule, Executive Director, Insurance Supervision at the Bank discusses its perspective on the growing trend towards illiquid asset investments by insurers and examines both the reasons as well as the supervisory response.

Today’s yield constrained environment coupled with regulatory pressures have made alternatives a fast growing area of interest for insurers, with allocations accelerating substantially in recent years.

Based on supervisory information from firms, currently around 25% of annuities are backed by illiquid assets but firms have plans for that proportion to increase to 40% by 2020. While this trend may have wider economic benefits, it is also important to note that these are new investment areas for most UK insurers and it is therefore, a growing area of scrutiny for regulators. This will be an opportunity to hear first hand how they are responding.

Other speakers and panelists will be drawn from leading insurers and industry experts, including the Association of British Insurers, Camdor Global Advisors, Allianz Global Investors, Forester Friendly Society, Insight Investment, Natixis Global Asset Management and Mesirow Financial as the audience and speakers debate the changing nature of insurance asset allocation, the move past traditional fixed income into alternative forms of credit – both liquid and illiquid – and the challenges ahead of both allocation and implementation.
